Jesus came to his disciples for their benefit but they nearly missed
their miracle. Both Jesus and the twelve were in the same storm.
The only difference is Jesus was walking on the water that is about
to destroy them. They were seeing so much in the natural and did
not believe that he could walk on water. So he passed them by. Why?
He will not force his will upon them. Though he came out for their
sake they had to ask him for help. You got to put a demand on God
for your miracle or he will pass you by. Often God will allow us
to come to a breaking point when pressure mounts up so that we can
wrestle with him. He cannot use anyone effectively until they know
what breaking point is. He needs saints who will walk with a limp
so that they will serve others with mercy and compassion. Peter
the trendsetting, radical, audacious and sold-out- for- Jesus disciple
recognized the voice of Jesus. He knew that the worst day with Jesus
is better than the best day without him. He wanted to be where Jesus
was, whether it was in the boat or in the water. He also knew that
he cannot go to him without his invitation or command. Peter answered
"Lord, if it is you command me to come to you on the water".
While the other eleven were still looking and hearing in the natural
realm, Peter on hearing the Words of Jesus was now being connected
to him in the spiritual realm by faith(faith comes by hearing the
Word of God-Romans 10:17 and not by praying, it is to be received.)Peter
knew he must come up higher in his walk with Jesus and he was ready
to risk leaving the boat and dive into the jaws of death. Such was
the love of Peter for his lord. Courage was Peter's master grace.
No wonder God entrusted the keys of the Kingdom to him. He was willing
to take the risk. You got to either hot or cold not lukewarm for
Christ. Only a water- walker can possess the keys to the Kingdom
of God and not baby-walkers. Peter suited the criteria and had the
credentials Jesus required for feeding and leading his sheep and
lambs later on.
The word "come" (Matt.14:29) is backed up by heaven. Every Word
that goes out of the Son is given to him by the Father. The Father
commands, the Son executes and the Spirit brings the manifestation
of the word. Jesus is vested with power on high therefore, the word
"come" contains authority, ability, weight and power. Words have
power and we need to recognize it. We can turn any situation around
by believing, receiving and confessing the Word of God. We are commanded
to speak to our mountains not to prayer about it (Mark 11:23).Many
of us are loyal to our notions of Jesus Christ, but how many of
us are loyal to him? Loyalty to Jesus means I have to step out where
I do not see anything; loyalty to my notions means that I use my
reasoning and intelligence first. Faith is not intelligent understanding.
Faith is a deliberate commitment to Jesus where I see no way. Unless
we have the right matter in our minds intellectually and in our
hearts affectionately, we will not be useful to God.
