Satan possesses weapons of mass destruction and mass deception in
his camp. The two most devasting missiles he uses against God's
chosen ones among other weapons are, fear and failure (his version
of the scud and cruise). Both these will disarm and keep the saints
in their boat and safety zone. You got to accept fear and failure
as the price for growth. Growth involves exploring uncharted territories
and taking up new projects. Each time you do, you can expect either
of them or both of them to come your way. They are a package deal
that comes with the goods, until you have become a water-walker.
The answer is to get out of the boat a little more each day, until
fear and failure loses its ability to control you. Risk and comfort
are both habits that become part of your daily routine. Each time
you risk leaving the boat, it means you are more likely to do it
again. Off course, you will experience fear, but each time you step
out on water without drowning, you will realize that fear no longer
has the power to control you. On the contrary, each time you resist
God's voice and choose to stay in the boat, his voice will gradually
become quieter, until eventually you don't hear at all. Let me deal
with both the issues separately to bring more light to it.
Fear :- Fear works on the same principles as faith. Both
are spiritual forces. They are opposites. Faith comes from hearing
the word of god. Fear comes from hearing the lies of Satan and the
world. Faith is substance (Heb11:1) desired and fear is substance
not desired. Faith has God's creative power and fear has Satan's
destructive power. Everyone is given a measure of faith (Rom.12:3).The
more you hear God's Word, faith will begin to rise within your spirit
moving you each time to a higher level. The more you hear Satan's
lies you will be going round the same mountain like the Israelites.
God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but a spirit
of power, love and sound mind (2Timothy1:7).Love is the antidote
to fear. Perfect love cast out fear (1John4:18). God is love. Love
is God. Only the perfected love of God in us can get rid of fear
which has torment in it. Faith connects us to God's love. When Peter
got out of the boat he was walking on the field of love connected
to Jesus. If you removed the water he will still be walking. But
when he was looking at the rough waters he became disconnected from
the field of anointing and began to sink. He was sinking in a place
where he could swim! This expert sea faring fisherman was the same
person who plunged into the sea in John21:7. So why was he sinking
besides being fearful and off focus?
1. When we think we are standing that is when we fall (1COR.10:12).
2. After going through few spiritual experiences we become invincible
and try to make it on our own.
3. The little faith was enough to get him on the water but not enough
to go all the way.
4. Doubt is another lethal weapon Satan uses especially when we
are only an arm's length away.
5. The storm is often a reminder of your past, the sound of the
wind reminded him of a sinking boat and past failure.
6. Faith and unbelief can co-exist. Unbelief can negate the faith.
There is no big faith in the bible only pure faith even if it is
only mustard faith it must not be contaminated with unbelief.
Failure:- Failure means success is delayed. Failure is fascination.
It opens doors of opportunities which we otherwise won't explore.
Many success stories are based on failures. God can cope with failures
what he hates is quitting and giving up. Failure is not an event
- only a judgment about an event. Failure is an indispensable part
of learning. Winston Churchill said, "I have never failed at anything
in my life I was simply given another opportunity to get it right."
What an attitude! While Peter was walking the real failures were
in the boat. They failed quietly and privately. Their failure went
unnoticed and un-criticized. Although Peter burnt out and crashed
out publicly he experienced some things first hand which the others
couldn't. The euphoria of walking on water empowered by God to make
the impossible possible. An experience never to be forgotten. The
joy of being lifted up by Jesus in a moment of despair. Only he
knew that if he sank Jesus was there to save him. He shared a unique
moment, a connection and trust that others didn't. Failure doesn't
come from sinking- it comes from letting fear stop you from obeying.
Jesus never said don't have symptoms of fear. "Fear not" means don't
allow fear to grip you, paralyse you or cripple you. When fearful
do it afraid. Anytime you leave the security of the boat remember
when you fail he is only an arm's length away.
Let failure re-direct you. Failing doesn't mean failure; only quitting
does. Though the righteous fall seven times he will rise again.
(Pro.24:16).
