Each time you walk on water it will make the struggle seem insignificant.
Jesus walked back to the boat with Peter. Peter didn't have preferential
treatment by being taken to the shore. Very often God takes us back
to the place where we started or failed, so that we can do it all
over again until with do it with the right attitude. Until we are
happy where we are at, he won't move us to the place we desire.
Giving thanks in all circumstances, for all things, for all men
are spiritual truths learnt in the storm (see1Thess.5:18, Eph.5:20,
1Tim.2:1) Jesus was interested in the spiritual growth of all twelve.
They were not going to be left out. He was training Peter to care
for his brothers in their hour of need. He was after Pentecost going
to be their spiritual leader and needed to develop a spirit of sensitivity.
He would have shared his awesome experience with them. When we fail
get back to the boat and build up our faith by hearing the Word
of God. There is no reward for faith, only for a life of faith.
Faith must be tried before the reality of faith is actual. Jesus
was going to teach Peter that to turn head faith into a personal
possession, there will always be a fight. Faith is not common sense.
Peter had to learn to turn his impulse into inspiration and intuition.
When we fail we should learn silently and not let others pay for
it. We really don't know ourselves until we have gone through a
test. Many of us want the testimony and not the test. Even after
a test we are left with the "moan-ies". Nothing about us surprises
God. He knows what we are. Remember Jesus never took the keys he
gave Peter after he had failed him. He gave him the keys knowing
he will fail him. Often God hides from us the process we got to
go through to fulfill his purpose. When he calls us for a ministry,
there is a plan, a process, progress, pressure points, pain, and
pleasure and people failure in the package. After the storm we need
to go back to boat for self- assessment, self- examination, self-
analysis or self- evaluation which will prepare us for the next
storm. Returning to the boat can also help you to bring others through
the storm. When Jesus returned to the boat it resulted in worship
and adoration. A right knowledge opens the door to true worship
especially the knowledge of Jesus Christ. They gave him his glory
and put their faith in him once more. They magnified him and not
the problem.
The disciples are first captured by Christ then they are conquered
by him using storms from a lesser degree to a greater degree so
that they will learn to live by faith and not by their senses. Discipleship
is built solely on the supernatural grace of God. Walking on water
is easy for an impulsive disciple but walking on dry land is a different
ball game altogether. Peter walked on water towards Jesus but he
followed him afar, on land (MATT.26:58).Faith must be tried. The
real trial of faith is not that we find it difficult to trust God,
but that God's character is allowed to be developed in us. Water
-walkers cannot live a neutral life. The disciples though the wind
was contrary never returned to the shore, they made every attempt
to go forward. Water-walkers have to be broken like the alabaster
jar, in the storm so that the aroma of their sweet fragrance can
waft over the calm sea. The world loves a steady boat with padded
chairs and stabilizers; and no feelings of seasickness with built-in
storm resistant decks. Those who play it safe will never need his
amazing grace. We often do not need grace of God to withstand crises.Human
nature and pride is sufficient. But, it does need supernatural grace
to live 24 hours a day as a saint, and, to lead an ordinary and
exceptional life among the meanest people, on the meanest street,
going through the drudgery as a disciple, unobserved and ignored.
Those who are ready for a water walking adventure with Christ will
find the everlasting arms of the eternal God underneath him (Deut.33:27).
May we be like Peter who saw the possibilities when others saw problems?
Water-walkers will have their faith tested, character refined and
abundance given. Bride of Christ, arise, leave your boat and walk
on water, face the eye of the storm in your Sea of Galilee with
the Prince of Peace who will still the storm in your heart and life.
